The CNRS Office to the European Union
The office represents the CNRS in Brussels and acts as an interface between the European institutions – the Parliament, Commission and agencies – and stakeholders on one side and CNRS Institutes and departments on the other. It helps define the CNRS’s European positions and relays them to Brussels. The office monitors developments in EU research policy. It also promotes the CNRS’s interests, particularly in the development of future strategies and framework programmes for research. Finally, the office is involved in supporting researchers in setting up European projects ; As such, it coordinates the network of European Project Engineers dedicated to setting up collaborative projects.What the office does
- Ensures high-level dialogue between CNRS governance and European research and innovation decision-makers.
- Promotes the CNRS’s positions to European bodies and networks of influence by taking part in consultations and discussion forums in Brussels.
- Leads its networks of influence (G6, national experts).
- Facilitates contacts with European institutions.
- Organises information and outreach events in Brussels.
- Coordinates the network of European Project Engineers (IPE) dedicated to setting up collaborative projects.

CNRS is a member of the G6 network, which brings together Europe’s leading multidisciplinary research bodies – CNR (Italy), CNRS (France), CSIC (Spain), Helmholtz Association, Leibniz Association and Max Planck Society (Germany) – and represents 135,000 employees.
