The Europe and International Division of the CNRS welcomes the arrival of Clarisse MUNIER as Head of the Africa, Middle East and India Sector. After starting her career as a research partnerships and technology transfer officer at the regional offices’ partnership and technology transfer departments (SPV) of the CNRS Centre-Est Delegation (Oct. 2012-Feb. 2018), Clarisse spent over five years working on European research and innovation policies. She first spent a few months in 2018 at the European Commission in Brussels, as a National Vocational Training Expert (ENFP) in the Cabinet of Commissioner Moedas (Research, Science and Innovation), before joining the General Secretariat for European Affairs (SGAE), the Prime Minister’s department whose main mission is to ensure the unity and coherence of French positions held within European Union (EU) bodies, as deputy in charge of Research and Innovation.

The Europe and International Division is also pleased to announce the appointment of Laurent Vidal as Director of the CNRS, IRD and CIRAD Representative Office in Southern Africa. Laurent Vidal is an anthropologist, senior researcher at the IRD and a member of the UMR SESSTIM. For nearly 40 years he has been working in Africa (Niger, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Senegal) on health issues (AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, maternal health) and on the epistemology of the social sciences in ‘development’ contexts. His work is the subject of some twenty books, including 6 in his own name, as well as nearly 60 articles and several dozen book chapters. He headed the IRD’s social science centre in Abidjan in the early 2000s, then the IRD’s social science department at its headquarters in Marseille. He was also a member of the IRD’s “Human and Social Sciences” sectoral scientific commission, as well as Sidaction’s scientific council. He was the IRD’s representative in Senegal from January 2015 to December 2018 (when he was made a Knight of the National Order of the Lion), then the Institute’s representative in Mali until 2023.
